The World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) is the most comprehensive global database of marine and terrestrial protected areas, updated on a monthly basis, and is one of the key global biodiversity data sets being widely used by scientists, businesses, governments, International secretariats and others to inform planning, policy decisions and management.

(a) to protect the environment and conserve biological diversity; and
(b) to ensure that proper weight is given to both the long-term and short-term
social, economic, environmental and equity considerations in deciding all
matters relating to access to, use and management of the country’s unique

The evaluation has reported according to a format specific to GEF requirements for an assessment to the completion of the Programme. There is an active dialogue in PNG about what might come after the completion of the pilot Programme, building on the foundations which it has laid for strengthened biodiversity conservation. In particular, there is a keen interest in the future for the communities and biodiversity values of the two areas in which ICAD processes were initiated.
