The Global Volcanism Program database currently contains 1242 volcanoes thought to have been active during the Pleistocene period (approximately the last 2.5 million years); volcanoes active in the past approximately 10,000 years are on the Holocene list and are not duplicated here. This resource contains the mapped locations of the Pleistocene volcanoes thoughout the world in shapefile format.
Global and regional estimates of coral reef areas are of considerable value in different fields, including fisheries assessment, marine conservation and environmental change. Despite this, the available estimates of reef areas vary substantially, partly due to divergences in the definition of reef habitats but also because of lack of information about reef coverage and of cost-effective methods of reef mapping.
PEBACC has four outputs:
1. Ecosystem and socio-economic resilience analysis and mapping (ESRAM) completed as a basis for adaptation planning at national, provincial and community levels.
2. EbA options analysed, prioritised and plans developed.
3. EbA plans implemented with demonstrated benefits.
4. Communications and outreach products developed to promote integration of EbA options into climate change policies, plans and projects.
This report presents the results of a rapid field assessment of Milne Bay Province, which encompasses the extreme southeastern tip of mainland Papua New Guinea and an extensive offshore area immediately eastward. It covers approximately 265,000 square kilometres, mostly situated in the Solomon Sea, an area heavily dotted with islands and shoals separating PNG from the neighboring Solomon Islands. The province includes three major mainland districts: a
